3D printed fidget toys have exploded in popularity โ and for good reason. They're satisfying to print, fun to use, and make amazing gifts. We've printed hundreds of fidget toys on our Bambu Lab A1, and these are the 10 designs that people can't stop picking up.
Why 3D Printed Fidget Toys?
The beauty of printing your own fidget toys is customization. You pick the color, the material, the size. Print them in silk PLA for that premium feel, or TPU for a squishy, flexible texture. Most of these designs are print-in-place โ meaning they come off the bed fully assembled, no glue or screws needed.
The Top 10 Fidget Toys
1. ๐ Articulated Dragon
The undisputed king of 3D printed fidget toys. This print-in-place articulated dragon has a body that flexes and curves in your hands with an incredibly satisfying feel. Every segment moves independently. Print it in rainbow silk PLA and you've got a showstopper.
Print tips: Print slow on the first layer (20mm/s). 0.2mm layer height. No supports needed โ that's the beauty of print-in-place.
2. โ๏ธ Gear Cube / Infinity Cube
Gear cubes are mesmerizing. Each face rotates and meshes with interlocking gears, creating a tactile click that's almost addictive. The infinity cube variant folds in on itself endlessly. Both are incredible desk toys.
Best filament: eSUN PLA+ for durability, or SUNLU Silk for looks.
3. ๐ Articulated Octopus
The cute articulated octopus was one of the first viral 3D prints, and it's still a crowd favorite. Each tentacle flexes independently, and the body has a gentle curve that feels great to fidget with. We've printed probably 50 of these as gifts.
Print tips: Works in any filament. We love using Overture PLA in bright colors for these โ it's cheap enough to print a whole army.
4. ๐ Fidget Spinner (Bearing-Free)
Forget buying cheap spinners online โ print one with a captive bearing that's part of the design. No hardware needed. The print-in-place versions spin surprisingly well and you can customize the shape endlessly.
5. ๐ฆ Articulated Gecko / Lizard
These articulated geckos look amazing in metallic silk PLA. The body flexes realistically, and kids love posing them on desks and shelves. Print a few in different colors and you've got a collection.
6. ๐ Chainmail Fidget Strip
A strip of interlocking chainmail that flows like fabric. In PLA it makes satisfying clicks; in TPU it becomes a squishy, flexible fidget strip that feels incredible in your hands. One of our personal favorites.
7. ๐ Caterpillar / Worm
The articulated caterpillar is the perfect quick print. Each segment clicks as you flex it, and kids (and adults) can't put them down. We keep a bowl of these by the front door โ everyone grabs one.
8. ๐ Gyroscope Ball
A nested set of rotating rings that all move independently. This one always blows people's minds โ "you printed that as one piece?!" Yes. Yes we did. The gyroscope ball is proof that 3D printing is magic.
9. ๐ Flexi Rex / Flexi Animals
The Flexi Rex is probably the most iconic 3D print of all time. The T-Rex body flexes smoothly side to side, and the design has inspired a whole zoo of flexi animals. Print the full set in Hatchbox PLA โ each one in a different color.
10. ๐ฒ Puzzle Cube / Maze Box
Print-in-place puzzle boxes with internal mazes that you need to solve to open. These are incredible gifts โ they double as a fidget toy and a brain teaser. Use eSUN PLA+ for the durability these need.
Best Filaments for Fidget Toys
The filament you use makes a huge difference in how a fidget toy feels:
- Bambu Lab PLA: Cleanest print, best surface finish, smooth action on print-in-place joints.
- SUNLU Silk PLA: Makes everything look premium. Best for gifts and display toys.
- SUNLU TPU: Flexible, squishy feel. Transforms chainmail and worms into a completely different experience.
- Overture PLA: Budget-friendly for batch printing. Great when you need 20 octopuses for a party.
Print Settings That Work
For most print-in-place fidget toys, these settings work great on the Bambu Lab A1:
- Layer height: 0.2mm (0.16mm for finer detail)
- Speed: Normal or even fast โ Bambu handles it
- Supports: None (the whole point of print-in-place)
- Infill: 15-20% for most toys, 10% for lightweight
- First layer speed: Slow it down to 20mm/s for good adhesion
Final Thoughts
3D printed fidget toys are one of the best things to print โ they're quick, satisfying, and people genuinely love them. Start with the articulated dragon or octopus, nail your settings, and then work through the rest of the list. Before you know it, everyone you know will be asking you to print one for them.
